DAYTONA BEACH, Florida — On Tuesday, a Florida cop struck a college student on a skateboard, causing the 19-year-old to be hospitalised.
According to WFLA.com, the victim attends Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an officer in a marked Daytona Beach police patrol car was driving south on Clyde Morris Boulevard in the outside lane, approaching Richard Petty Boulevard.
When the officer passed through the junction on a green light, the college student entered the crossing on his skateboard without yielding to oncoming traffic.
The student was struck by the vehicle and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The officer was not hurt, according to the FHP.
“Our thoughts are with the student.” “We are cooperating with authorities as they investigate this incident,” the college said in a statement to WFLA.com.
The crash is still under investigation.
