8-year-old Died from Gunshot Wound while Shielding Mother from Father during Fight in Minnesota; Saved Mother and Siblings

A tragic incident unfolded in Minnesota as a young boy lost his life while bravely protecting his mother during a devastating shooting. The alleged perpetrator of this heinous act was none other than the boy’s father, who had recently been released from jail after facing charges of domestic assault.

The 8-year-old boy was named Amir Harden. He passed away on Sunday at a hospital in Hennepin County, Minn. He had sustained gunshot wounds to his head and neck during a shooting last week, according to the county medical examiner’s office.

According to police, a tragic incident occurred in Amir’s Burnsville, Minn., home late Wednesday night, resulting in a fatal shooting. There were four other young children present at the scene of the shooting.

According to police, Amir was not the intended target and the shooting occurred during a domestic incident, as reported by KTSP.

According to Amir’s mother, who goes by the name Cherish Edwards, she claimed on a GoFundMe page that her son attempted to disarm the suspect during the incident. Tragically, Amir was unintentionally shot while the suspect was allegedly aiming to harm his mother. The fundraiser was established to provide assistance for the costs of relocation and therapy for Edwards’ other children.

According to Edwards, when Amir was told to leave, the child was determined to protect her.

She wrote that he refused and said, “Mommy, I’m not leaving you here.”

According to CBS News, the individual believed to be involved in the incident, who has been named by the Star Tribune and Fox 9 as Danair Harden, is currently in critical condition and receiving medical treatment at the hospital.

According to the Star Tribune, Danair reportedly assaulted Edwards shortly after being released from jail, following charges of assault against her in relation to a May 30 incident. It remains uncertain whether he has secured legal representation or responded to the assault charge.

Meanwhile, Amir is fondly remembered by his family as a brave individual who always looked out for others as reported by PEOPLE.

“He was a leader, a protector of his siblings,” Edwards said, per the outlet. “He was my biggest cheerleader. Every day I go to work, he’d say, ‘Have a good day, Mommy. I love you.'”

“We’re finally free of [Danair], but my child paid the ultimate sacrifice,” Edwards said, per the outlet. “My children, all of them, I feel so bad for them. They are traumatized. It’s going to take years, if it ever goes away.”

According to a city spokesperson, Burnsville authorities are considering potential criminal charges against Danair if the company manages to survive.
