8-month-old Infant Found Dead in Decomposed Manner in Parents’ Home in Kentucky; Family Members Arrested for Heartbreaking Killing

Authorities in Kentucky have announced the discovery of remains that are believed to be those of Miya Rudd, an 8-month-old infant who went missing in April. The investigation into her disappearance has resulted in the arrest of multiple members of her family.

In early June, Kentucky State Police were called to Reynolds Station, Ky. for a welfare check. However, they were unable to find Miya, according to a statement released by the department. The department has recently updated their follow-up statements to identify Miya as Miya Rudd, instead of Miya Tucker.

Following the investigation, authorities apprehended Tesla Tucker, 29, and Cage Rudd, 30, the parents of the infant, along with her grandfather Ricky Smith. They are facing multiple charges related to her disappearance.

According to an arrest affidavit, Miya was last seen in April by her family members.

According to authorities, when the police first arrived at her home, the parents claimed that she had been taken by child services. However, subsequent investigations by News 14 and K 105 reportedly revealed that this claim was false.

Drug paraphernalia, including methamphetamine, was reportedly discovered in the home during a welfare check, raising concerns about the potential exposure of Miya to drugs. According to Kentucky State Police, News 14 reported that when she was born in October 2023, her umbilical cord tested positive for methamphetamine.

In a statement, the department revealed that troopers made a disturbing discovery on June 14. They found a decomposed body that had been concealed in a hidden manner at the Rudd residence. There are strong suspicions that the remains belong to Miya.

The statement reveals that the decomposed body was found inside the residence, carefully concealed.

The remains were transported to the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville, as confirmed by the Ohio County Coroner’s Office. No additional comments were provided by the coroner’s office due to the ongoing investigation.

Authorities have charged Tucker, Rudd, and Smith with additional offenses including abuse of a corpse, evidence tampering, and failing to report a death, following the discovery of the remains.

In addition, the statement mentioned that Brodie C. Payne, 28, is facing charges for the same offenses. Payne, who had been residing in the Rudd residence for several months, was initially apprehended on drug charges and charges associated with organized crime, among other offenses.

In their June 6 statement, police revealed that Tucker and Rudd had been charged with child abandonment, drug possession, and several other offenses. According to a statement from state police shared with PEOPLE, Smith has faced charges related to child abuse, child abandonment, drug trafficking, and possession of firearms by a felon.

Authorities had also detained both of Miya’s grandmothers and her other grandfather during their investigation, but they were not charged in connection with her disappearance. Tesla’s three other children have been removed from the care of her grandparents, Taletha D. Tucker, 50, and David Tucker, 53.

A woman who claims to be Miya’s aunt has created a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for her memorial.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic event and require your assistance in collecting sufficient funds to provide her with a dignified burial and memorial,” states the fundraiser.

The investigation is currently underway, as stated by troopers. They also mentioned the possibility of additional charges in the future.
