New York City, NY: The parolee who is accused of repeatedly stabbing a great-grandmother who was 75 years old inside a Bronx elevator struck without warning and left his victim with a pierced lung, according to the police and the prosecutors. The assailant was ordered to be kept without bail in connection with the horrific attack.
Around 11:30 a.m. on Easter Sunday, Edwin Rios, 38, allegedly followed Zenona Ramos into her building on Morris Avenue near East Burnside Avenue and unleashed a violent attack without provocation, according to the police. Rios is currently facing a charge of attempted murder.
According to the criminal complaint, he “repeatedly struck” Ramos all over her face, head, and body with a sharp tool, leaving her with several cuts that were bleeding and a punctured lung. Ramos was also left with multiple other injuries.
“As soon as I walked in, he began punching and stabbing me without uttering a single word,” wrote Ramos in an interview with WABC. “I was trapped in the elevator, I have diabetes, I was operated on, he opened up all of my wounds, and he cut me,” she said.
In an interview with the network, Ramos stated that she had pleaded with the heartless stabber to let her live because she has a family.
According to the sources, the elderly Ramos was covered in blood when she knocked on the doors of her neighbors in an attempt to get assistance. Eventually, one of them dialed 911.
Despite the fact that she required forty stitches in one hand, the elderly woman was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where she was initially described as being in stable condition.
