71-year-old Woman Strangled to Death in Hawaii Home: Police say Woman Killed During Robbery

An investigation is currently being conducted following the discovery of a deceased 71-year-old woman in her residence in Hawaiian Acres, located in the Puna region of the Big Island.

The victim has been identified as Yong Cha Kim of Mountain View, according to authorities.

Investigators suspect that the murder took place between the evening of Tuesday, June 18 and Thursday, June 20.

On June 20, police officers were called to a home in Mountain View after an elderly man discovered his wife unresponsive on the floor.

Upon arrival, officers observed that Kim had sustained multiple injuries that raised suspicions. They also observed that objects within the residence had been tampered with. According to the police, there were additional items that were stolen.

Kim was taken to the Hilo Benioff Medical Center and unfortunately pronounced dead shortly before 7 p.m. that day.

On Friday, June 28, a forensic pathologist conducted an autopsy on Kim and concluded that she died from strangulation. The cause of death was classified as homicide. There is no additional information available at this time and no arrests have been made as reported by KITV News.
