69-year-old Killed Young Wife and Stuffed Body in Freezer in Texas; Took Last-Minute Plea Deal Admitting the Heinous Crime
A 62-year-old man has reached a last-minute plea deal after being accused of killing his wife and stuffing her body in a freezer.
The process of selecting the jury was scheduled to begin on Monday morning. According to attorneys, Curtis Allen Holliday has pleaded guilty to his wife’s murder and has been sentenced to 10 years in prison. He will receive credit for the two years he spent in the Harris County Jail prior to posting bond.
“Curtis decided it was in his best interest, instead of risking a life sentence. If the jury didn’t agree with us, to take what was offered,” Holliday’s defense attorney, Dick DeGuerin, told ABC13. “He’ll be out in time to continue to raise his daughter,” stated Holliday’s defense attorney, Dick DeGuerin, in an interview with ABC13.
The incident in question occurred in 2020.
Holliday was taken into custody on May 5, 2020, following charges of violating a protective order and engaging in continuous violence against a family member.
Court documents reveal that Holliday allegedly assaulted his wife, Chi Thi Lien Le, on two separate occasions in November and December of 2019. As a result, he now faces charges of assault.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Le was reported missing in late April 2020 after her family members were unable to contact her for several days.
According to a witness, her last sighting was on April 3, 2020. After a month had passed, deputies carried out a search at Holliday’s business located in the 5800 block of North Sam Houston Parkway West. To their grim discovery, they found Le’s body carefully concealed in plastic within a commercial freezer on the premises.
Holliday has been charged with murder following the medical examiner’s determination that her death was a homicide as reported by ABC13 News.
DeGuerin described the plea as “guilty with an asterisk” and stated that his team collected evidence suggesting that Le took her own life.
“We believe this was actually suicide, but he panicked after he found her. Instead of calling police, he put her in a freezer and that’s bizarre,” DeGuerin conceded. “And I don’t know if a jury would have liked that too much.”
Holliday’s formal sentencing is scheduled for July.
