6-year-old Beaten to Death by Mother in New York; Mom who Hanged Kid from Wrists in Bronx Apartment Finally Charged
The alleged hanging and beating to death of a 6-year-old girl by a monstrous mother in the Bronx was the last in a string of horrific acts of child abuse committed at the dreadful “house of horrors.”
For weeks beginning March 1, 27-year-old Lynija Eason of the Morrisania part of the borough, who resides on East 165th Street, is accused of viciously beating her child, Jelayah Eason Branch.
Authorities found the body of the young child in the unsanitary apartment on Sunday, according to Tuesday’s statement from the Bronx District Attorney’s Office.
The girl was discovered underweight and bruised; she bore marks on her wrists from the shackles her mother allegedly used to whip and hang her in the closet.
In a press statement, District Attorney Darcel Clark stated, “The little girl was allegedly hung by her wrists and beaten by the defendant with a hard object.” “According to reports, Jelayah’s mother allegedly subjected her to an ordeal of hunger and pain for weeks before she finally gave in.”
Child abuse, positional hypoxia, blunt force injuries, and malnutrition were the causes of Jelayah’s death, according to the municipal medical examiner’s office, the district attorney stated.
“We will ensure justice is served for Jelayah, and we are also offering assistance and support to her two siblings who managed to escape from that horrific house,” Clark further stated.
According to Clark, Eason faces indictments for three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, two counts of second-degree manslaughter, first-degree manslaughter, and second-degree manslaughter.
Eason will remain incarcerated at the Rose M. Singer Center in the Bronx, as ruled by Justice Brenda Rivera of the Bronx Supreme Court, who also ordered her remand to be continued.
June 26th will be her return to court.
