3-Mile Hot Chase on Benson Hill, Driver Arrested on Several Charges in Renton
The Renton Police Department received a report about a man who had been stopped in the middle of the road and had been knocked unconscious at the wheel.
When police officers tried to wake the man up, the suspect slammed the gas and fled.
Around 8:30 p.m., the event happened at the intersection of Southeast Petrovitsky Road and 108th Avenue, at the summit of Benson Hill.
Officers installed spike strips under suspicion of drug usage to immobilize the vehicle if the driver awoke strangely and attempted to escape. The police suspicions were correct and the spikes deflated the three tires of the car.
Abruptly, the 39-year-old driver turned left on Petrovitsky Road and quickly drove away.
Officers discovered 22 tablets in the suspect’s pocket. After being field-tested, each of them came up positive for fentanyl.
After leading police on a two-and-a-half-mile pursuit for around seven minutes, the suspect was finally apprehended. His rash driving put many lives in danger.
A few vehicles that were parked beside the roads had been damaged. No injuries are reported.
The driver is in police custody on the charges of DUI, evading police, and reckless driving.
