3 Detained for Homicide, Were Minors when Murdered a Teen, To be Tried in Court as Adults
The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office is being urged by the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office to bring adult charges against three teenagers who were detained for homicide. The teenagers were taken into custody concerning the death of a teenager in October.
On October 8, 2023, at approximately 10:45 p.m., Alameda County deputies and Emergency Medical Services workers responded to a report of a carjacking and suspected shooting. The location was an apartment building in Unincorporated San Leandro located on Miramar Avenue.
Deputies arrived at the scene and discovered that Leandro Iquite, age 18, had sustained a gunshot wound to the head. As a result of his injuries, he passed away at a nearby hospital, according to the police.
According to leads and evidence unearthed during an inquiry that lasted many months, Yefry Aguilar Rubio, 18, is one of the suspects in Iquite’s death. Aguilar Rubio turned 18 later that same month, however, he was 17 at the time of the incident.
Authorities added that investigators also found that Aguilar Rubio’s 16-year-old brother and her 17-year-old girlfriend were complicit in the murder. According to police-cited evidence, Aguilar Rubio and his girlfriend started talking about hurting Iquite back in June.
Additional evidence suggested that the accused murdered the deceased by luring him from Redwood City, where they all lived, to San Leandro.
The DA was tasked with prosecuting the case on allegations of homicide, carjacking, and conspiracy. The Sheriff’s office requested that the DA prosecute all three suspects as adults under Welfare and Institutions Code 707 and Proposition 57.
