27-Year-Old Turns Himself in Rockville for Stabbing Death of 87-Year-Old Grandmother in Potomac

Rockville, MD – A Montgomery County man has been charged with the murder of his 87-year-old grandmother after turning himself in to police on Sunday morning.

Spencer Dillon Hamilton, 27, strolled into the Rockville City Police Department at 8 a.m. Sunday and told officers that he had just slain his grandmother, Pauline Yvonne Titus-Dillon, authorities said.

Officers went to Titus-Dillon’s home on Tribunal Lane in Potomac and located her body with fatal stab wounds and other injuries.

According to authorities, Hamilton acknowledged to waiting in his grandmother’s bedroom closet and attacked her when she left the restroom around 4 a.m. According to court documents, he stabbed her in the back and head, choked her, and punched her repeatedly in the face and head. He then relocated her body to the bathroom and attempted to clean up the mess before departing with her credit card, cell phone, and laptop.

Hamilton was arrested along with the alleged weapon used in the attack, according to officials.

The investigation is underway.

Hamilton appeared in court Monday via closed-circuit television from jail, stating that he intended to represent himself despite the recommendations of the judge, defence attorney, and family.

FOX 5 DC spoke with a criminal and civil lawyer unrelated to the case, who said representing yourself in any case is unusual, especially in first-degree murder.

“He could be shooting himself in the foot and putting himself at a severe disadvantage in a case that has the highest stakes of any criminal cases there is,” said civil and criminal litigator Eric Faddis.

The judge ordered Hamilton’s evaluation, and his bond hearing will take place next Monday.
