BOWLING GREEN, Fla. (AP) — Florida first lady Casey DeSantis has completed her final chemotherapy treatment after a breast cancer diagnosis, Gov. Ron DeSantis said Thursday.
The first lady’s diagnosis was made public in October. The governor said she finished the chemotherapy treatments Wednesday, calling it a “big milestone.”
“She’s doing well and we look forward to having good news over the ensuing weeks and months,” the Republican governor said at a news conference in Bowling Green.
Casey DeSantis, 41, has played an active role in her husband’s administration, often appearing alongside the governor at official events. The couple has three children.

In their last regular-season series, No. 9 Miami was able to pull out a series win against No. 14 Notre Dame by the count of two games to one. On Thursday and Saturday, the Hurricanes won, 6-4 and 16-7, respectively, and on Friday, they lost, 5-0. Here are some of the takeaways from the series.
Carson Palmquist dominated again, and he will be a game-changer in the postseason
On Thursday, sophomore starting pitcher Carson Palmquist, the Hurricanes’ ace pitcher, put on a very strong outing. In five innings pitched, he struck out eight batters and only gave up one hit, a home run from Notre Dame left fielder Ryan Cole.
The lefty became the first Hurricane pitcher since 2018 to have 100 strikeouts in a season.
“Anytime you get that many strikeouts, you’re in a special group,” Miami head coach Gino DiMare said. “We’ve had a number of great pitchers over the years, but he’s definitely one of a kind. I don’t recall anybody being quite like him.”
His teammates gave him all the praise as well.
“He’s crushing it,” sophomore third baseman Yohandy Morales said. “He’s been really aggressive going after hitters, not falling behind. He’s been pitching great for us all year. We can’t ask for anything more than that.”
With the hope of performances like Thursday’s, the Hurricanes can achieve great postseason success when Palmquist is on the mound.
Home run galore
This past weekend featured nine home runs in the two winning games by the Hurricanes. The ability of this team to turn on the “offensive destruction switch” has been impressive, especially in games that need a rally or lots of runs to get over the other teams’ huge tally.
In spectacular fashion, freshman outfielder Gaby Gutierrez had three of the nine home runs, with two of them on Thursday night, yielding five runs.
“I don’t really care about my stats, whatever helps the team win and puts us on top is what really matters,” Gutierrez said when asked about his home runs. “I’ve been struggling a bit, but I stuck to the same approach. I was trying to find something to drive in the air. He hung two breaking balls and I just put a barrel on it.”
Most of Miami’s other homers came in the first inning of Saturday’s game, in which the Hurricanes scored seven runs en route to a win.
On Friday, however, the Hurricanes put up zero runs on just five hits. For postseason success, the Hurricanes must be consistent on the offensive end.
Postseason baseball is here
Miami finishes the 2022 regular season with a record of 39-16 (20-10 Atlantic Coast Conference). As one of the best teams in the nation, it is very possible for the Hurricanes to compete for an ACC title as well as an NCAA championship.
First up is the ACC tournament, where the Hurricanes are the No. 3 seed and are in Pool C with sixth-seeded Wake Forest (15-14-1 ACC) and 10th-seeded North Carolina State (14-15 ACC).
The Canes first play NC State on Wednesday, May 25th at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, North Carolina. The first pitch will be at 7 p.m.
A trilogy of Kravis nuptials has been completed with a (probably) final ceremony in Portofino, Italy.
Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker each posted to Instagram on Sunday a photo of themselves kissing at the altar, with the caption, “happily ever after.”
The photo showed a backdrop that included scores of candles and a Madonna-and-child painting. A smiling officiant looks on.
Kardashian later added another photo of the two smiling and facing the guests moments later, with the text, “ Introducing Mr. and Mrs. Barker.”
She wore a white corseted mini-dress and a floor-length veil with a giant Virgin Mary design on the side. He wore a black suit. Both were designed by Dolce & Gabbana, according to People Magazine.
The wedding was held at Castello Brown, a castle built in the Middle Ages overlooking the Gulf of Portofino, TMZ reported.
The ceremony came after an Elvis-impersonator-officiated “practice” wedding — with no marriage license — followed by a small ceremony — with marriage license — in Santa Barbara, California.
The wedding party arrived Friday in the jet set playground of Portofino, a seaside village known for its multicolored houses and crystalline green water on the Italian Riviera coast.
Photographers snapped the couple, along with the rest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan and Barker’s daughter Alabama, as they arrived for dinner Friday and when they took to the streets again Saturday on their way to lunch. In a prelude to her wedding outfit, Kourtney wore a veil and short black dress emblazoned with a likeness of the Virgin Mary.
The reality star, 43, and the Blink-182 drummer, 46, are known for their PDA and didn’t disappoint. They were seen Friday on a boat sharing a kiss in the abundant sun — she in a T-shirt of her beau’s band and he in his favorite style condition: shirtless with his multiple tattoos on display.
A larger reception is planned later in Los Angeles, according to reports.
Barker and the oldest Kardashian sister went Instagram official with their relationship early last year. He popped the question in October, beachside with a ring of red roses and white candles at a Montecito, California, hotel.
Kourtney had a long previous relationship with Scott Disick, with whom she had three kids. Barker has been married twice. His first marriage, to Melissa Kennedy, lasted nine months. His last divorce, from Shanna Moakler, came in 2008. They wed in 2004 and share two teen kids.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Ariel Lassiter scored in the first half, Robert Taylor scored an insurance goal late and Inter Miami CF defeated the New York Red Bulls 2-0 on Sunday.
Lassiter, who was acquired from the Houston Dynamos in the offseason, found the net in the 29th minute to give Inter Miami (4-6-3) a 1-0 lead. Taylor connected in the 88th minute. It was the first goal this season for both players.
Drake Callender saved all four shots he faced for Inter Miami. He has two clean sheets in five starts this season.
The Red Bulls (5-3-5), who began the day in a four-way tie for second place in the Eastern Conference, lost for the first time on the road this season. It was the Red Bulls’ first defeat in their last seven matches, but it marked the fourth straight match without a win.
