Six Injured in Shooting at Hip-Hop Show in Eugene, Oregon

A hip-hop show in Eugene, Oregon ended in tragedy as six concertgoers were injured by gunfire. Police Chief Chris Skinner told CNN the incident is “certainly one of the highest-profile shootings we’ve had in the city of Eugene.”

Performers at the local hip-hop show were Lil Bean and Zay Bang.

Six attendees were transferred from the WOW Hall. One person is in critical condition and needed surgery.

“We just need people to feel comfortable and bring that forward so we can better understand what happened and better identify our suspect,” he said. “All we know at this point is we have a male in a hoodie that was seen running westbound … right after the shooting.”

Issa Rae and H.E.R. lead the pack in nods at The 53rd NAACP Image Awards.

Issa Rae, Regina King and Jennifer Hudson are the leading contenders for motion picture categories at this year’s NAACP Image Awards.

The nominees were announced Tuesday, and leading the list with 12 nominations each was Issa Rae’s HBO series “Insecure,” and the Netflix Black Western “The Harder They Fall.

Regina King co-stars in “The Harder They Fall,” and is also up for Entertainer of the Year. Jennifer Hudson is up for Entertainer of the Year as well, and her movie “Respect” has six nominations.

Singer-songwriter H.E.R. took the lead 6 nominations. Including being nominated for best female artist, best album for “Back of My Mind,” best R&B album, song of the year for “Fight For You” and more.

Following behind H.E.R. with four nominations each is Chlöe, Drake, Silk Sonic and Jazmine Sullivan.

This year’s list featured 83 categories for recordings, motion pictures, TV and streaming, documentaries, directing, podcasts, literary, and writing.

The 53rd NAACP Image Awards will be hosted by Anthony Anderson on Saturday, February 26th at 8 p.m. ET/PT live on BET.

The NAACP will recognize winners in non-televised categories February 21-25, with those ceremonies to stream on NAACPImageAwards.net.

Happy Birthday To The Roots’ Questlove!

Happy Born day to Ahmir Khalib Thompson better known as ?uestlove a.k.a Questlove! Born in 1971, he turns a half century today. The OG is originally known as the drummer for the legendary Hip Hop band The Roots, but he has many roles.

On February 17, 2014, he became a part of the in-house band for The Tonight Show, and with The Roots he’s played the same role during the 969-episodes of  Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. 

Let’s not forget about the many artists he has produced such as Jay Z, Common, D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, the late Amy Winehouse, John Legend, and old school R&B legend Al Green. The list goes on with all the production teams he has been a part of, including Hip Hop pioneers like The Soulsonics and The Grand Wizards.

The influence of this multi-faceted musician has reached far beyond most in his lifetime thus far, and he’s nearly only half way thru. Happy Birthday Questlove and many more to come!

Joe uses a bar from Jay-Z’s “Feelin’ It”, a hit song from his Reasonable Doubt debut, to prove that exact point, rapping, “If every n***a in your clique is rich, your clique is rugged/Nobody will fall ‘cause everyone will be each other’s crutches…”

The TS general adds, “Everybody wanna be the man. Everybody wanna be the guy everybody looks up to. There’s no real strength in that. The strength is in everybody eating, so that if one of us falls, we can lift him up. You have to understand that mentality.”
