This hideous looking Mercedes-Maybach-based armored SUV celebrates the Chinese Lunar New Year

What you’re looking at is the latest creation from Latvian carmaker Dartz which is known for building some of the most outlandish armored SUVs. Remember the gold-plated SUV from the movie ‘The Dictator’? Well, that’s the vehicle that made Dartz famous around the world. The newest offering created by Dartz Black Alligator MMXX – the Black Tiger Lunar edition. The armored SUV decked out in bright orange and black celebrates the Chinese New Year, which according to the Chinese Zodiac is the Year of the Tiger. While the Dartz Black Alligator that was launched a few years back was based on the Mercedes-AMG GLS63, the newest edition uses the ultra-luxurious Mercedes-Maybach GLS600 as a base.

In terms of looks, the Black Tiger Lunar edition features an in-your-face styling that replaces Mercedes-Maybach GLS600’s rounded body panels with a cheap-looking bodykit with straight lines and sharp edges. There’s also a lot of naked carbon fiber. The turbine alloy wheels look equally hideous and are disproportionately small. There’s not much information on the interior but it’s just as flashy as the exterior and features alligator leather on various surfaces.

Most of the details revealed by the Latvian company are not very specific, especially in the case of specifications. Dartz claims the SUV approximately has the same curb weight as the 5,919-lbs donor car, which is questionable as armor-plating increases the overall weight considerably. The company said the armored SUV uses Sapphire glass sourced from the Bohemia region, which is twice as thin as normal glass but provides the same level of protection. The exact power figures were also not revealed; instead, Dartz just said that it has an additional “100-300 horsepower” over the Mercedes-Maybach which will help you “to escape villains before they can test your armor.” In case you need something lighter, the company is also offering a non-armored version which should be quicker thanks to its lighter weight.

Jerry Lorenzo shook up the streetwear and sneaker scene on December 22nd, 2020 by announcing that his partnership with NIKE, Inc. had concluded, and that he was joining adidas in a number of capacities. While fans immediately began conjuring up mock-ups of what the American designer’s footwear would look like with 3-Stripes branding, Lorenzo shared that his partnership with the German sportswear behemoth focused around two pillars: leading global creative strategy for adidas Basketball and launching the Fear Of God Athletics line of products.

Although Lorenzo has maintained a relatively low profile since announcing his long-term partnership with the Three Stripes, the 44-year-old has shown love to a number of adidas Originals products via social media and in-person appearances (his co-sign of the adidas Samba helped make it a go-to sneaker among “savvy” fashion-goers). A month after wearing the first officially co-branded piece from Fear Of God and adidas, the American designer has set up an immersive experience at Shanghai’s Innersect space.

Between January 15th and 23rd, Lorenzo and his Three Stripes family will display the first Fear Of God Athletics collection in its entirety. As the former consultant for Yeezy shared via Instagram, the inaugural apparel collection simultaneously “celebrates the modernity of [his own] luxury house and the rich history of adidas…”; the sweatshirts and pants featured in the debut capsule indulge in a muted yellow and vibrant blue color palette, with the latter tone animating the collection’s most defining detail: a collaborative badge modeled after the typeface the German company used from 1950 to 1971, “arguably its most dominant and defining era…” according to Lorenzo.

A firm adidas CONFIRMED app release date for the first Fear of God Athletics collection hasn’t been disclosed by any party involved, but the brand’s frontman has shared that items will arrive by the end of 2022. While no original footwear was included in the exhibit held at Innersect, it’s possible Lorenzo’s long-term partnership with the Three Stripes will eventually result in sneaker releases à la adidas Yeezy.

Over the course of 2021, Jordan Brand seemingly upped the number of kids’ exclusives, providing the younger crowd the “Wild Things” Air Jordan 4 and no shortage of Air Jordan 1 Mids. This year, the Air Jordan 3 is joining the catalog, dressing up in a colorful “Kumquat” colorway.

At a glance, one would mistake these for a Halloween-inspired creation. Black darkens much of the tumbled leather, while “Kumquat” and “Team Orange” outfit many of the details adjacent. The louder of the two sees more widespread usage, finishing eyelets, Jumpman embroidery, and the subtle tie-dye of the tread below; the lighter shade, then, makes up the animal-like pattern of the toe cap and counter.

For a closer look at the Air Jordan 3 “Kumquat” see the leaked retailer imagery below. Currently, these are slated to release March 2nd.

In other news, images of the Air Jordan 11 72-10 are here.
