Former President Donald Trump waded into enemy territory Wednesday, agreeing to an interview with left-leaning NPR where he broke down how the 2020 election was stolen.

Asked if Republican candidates are required to agree that Democrats stole the election in order to have his support, Trump reminded Morning Edition’s Steve Inskeep that Biden could barely pull a crowd at the height of the campaign, and that the people are still hungry for election integrity.

“Let me ask you this question. How come Biden couldn’t attract 20 people for a crowd? How come when he went to speak in different locations, nobody came to watch, but all of a sudden, he got 80 million votes? Nobody believes that, Steve. Nobody believes that,” Trump told Inskeep.

“If I can just move on to ask, are you telling Republicans in 2022 that they must press your case on the past election in order to get your endorsement? Is that an absolute?” Inskeep asked.

Trump responded: “They are going to do whatever they want to do – whatever they have to do, they’re going to do. But the ones that are smart – the ones that know, you take a look at, again. You take a look at how Kari Lake is doing, running for governor. She’s very big on this issue. She’s leading by a lot. People have no idea how big this issue is, and they don’t want it to happen again. It shouldn’t be allowed to happen, and they don’t want it to happen again.”

“And the only way it’s not going to happen again is you have to solve the problem of the presidential rigged election of 2020,” Trump added, before thanking Inskeep for the interview.

A YouTube headline by NPR claimed Trump “Cuts NPR Interview Short When Pressed On Election Lies.”

Here’s a transcript via Mediaite:

TRUMP: “Let me ask you this question. How come Biden couldn’t attract 20 people for a crowd? How come when he went to speak in different locations, nobody came to watch, but all of a sudden, he got 80 million votes? Nobody believes that, Steve. Nobody believes that.”

INSKEEP: “If you’ll forgive me, maybe because the election was about you. If I can just move on to ask, are you telling Republicans in 2022 that they must press your case on the past election in order to get your endorsement? Is that an absolute?”

TRUMP: “They are going to do whatever they want to do – whatever they have to do, they’re going to do.

INSKEEP: “I want to –”

TRUMP: “And the only way it’s not going to happen again is you have to solve the problem of the presidential rigged election of 2020.”

INSKEEP: “Mr. President, if I —”

TRUMP: “So Steve, thank you very much. I appreciate it.”

INSKEEP: “Woah, woah, woah, I have one more question. I want to ask about a court hearing yesterday on Jan. 6. Judge Amit Mehta. He’s gone. OK.”

Elsewhere in the interview Trump referred to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell as a “loser” when asked why Republicans don’t back his efforts to expose election fraud.

“Why is it that you think that the vast majority of your allies in the United States Senate are not standing behind you? We did have that statement by Mike Rounds,” Inskeep asked.

Trump responded: “Because Mitch McConnell is a loser. And frankly, Mitch McConnell, if he were on the other side and if Schumer were put in his position, he would have been fighting this like you’ve never seen before. He would have been fighting this, because when you look at it, and this is long — is a long way from over. You take a look at what’s going on now in Pennsylvania. Take a look at what’s going on in Wisconsin. You just take a look.

“Now, we had a lot of cases where the judges wouldn’t hear him. We had a case in Nevada that was so good. You read the papers. It’s impossible. The judge refused to even listen to it. We had many cases. In fact, they say, and I can’t testify because it’s been through a lot of systems, a lot of different systems. But they say, and they say very strongly, the judges just — nobody’s really gotten a chance to look. Look at the United States Supreme Court. They refused to hear the case.”

The White House released a pre-recorded video address of President Joe Biden on Monday marking Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Video of the president appeared to show Biden delivering his address from his video set across the street from the White House — even as he spent the day at his home in Delaware.

The video focused on Dr. King’s legacy, using the occasion to complain about election security laws supported by Republicans in the United States.

“The attack on our democracy is real from the January 6th insurrection to the onslaught of Republicans’ anti-voting laws in a number of states,” Biden said in the prerecorded video address.

No press was allowed into the pre-recorded address, so it was not interrupted by reporters shouting questions at the end of the event.

“It’s not just enough to praise him, we must commit to his unfinished work to deliver jobs and justice to protect the sacred right to vote, the right from which all other rights flow,” Biden said, marking the holiday.

Biden’s address was a rehash of his speech in Georgia, but this time he did not again compare his political rivals to historical racist figures.

“I know where I stand and it’s time for every elected official in America to make it clear where they stand,” he said.

Majority of Americans Now Identify as Republican After Massive 14 Percent Swing in One Year!

majority-of-americans-now-identify-as-republican-after-massive-14-percent-swing-in-one-year!

The majority of Americans now identify as Republican after a 14 point swing to the right in 2021.

A newly released Gallup survey found that over the course of 2021, the Democrats fell from a nine-percentage-point advantage in the first quarter to Republicans having a five-point edge in the fourth quarter.

“The GOP has held as much as a five-point advantage in a total of only four quarters since 1991. The Republicans last held a five-point advantage in party identification and leaning in early 1995, after winning control of the House of Representatives for the first time since the 1950s. Republicans had a larger advantage only in the first quarter of 1991, after the U.S. victory in the Persian Gulf War led by then-President George H.W. Bush.,” the pollsters reported.

The pollsters believe that much of the shift is due to the rising disapproval of Joe Biden since he took office.

“Democrat Joe Biden enjoyed relatively high ratings after taking office on Jan. 20, and his approval stayed high through the early summer as COVID-19 infections dramatically decreased after millions of Americans got vaccinated against the disease. A summer surge of infections tied to the delta variant of the coronavirus made it clear the pandemic was not over in the U.S., and Biden’s approval ratings began to sag. Later, the chaotic U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan caused Biden’s ratings to fall further, into the low 40s. His ratings remain low as the U.S. battles rising inflation and yet another surge of COVID-19 infections, tied to the omicron variant of the virus,” the report states.

The report added, “with control of the House of Representatives and Senate at stake in this year’s midterm elections, party preferences will be a key indicator of which party will be better positioned to gain majorities in the next session of Congress.”
