2021 Jersey Teen Killer Found Guilty, To Be Sentenced in 2024

Jersey City, New Jersey: Jalen Culver is found guilty in the 2021 shooting death of Zaimeir Bell. Culver, now 22, is convicted by a jury on charges of manslaughter and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. The four-day trial also tried him on Aggravated Manslaughter charges but was acquitted of this.

On March 21, 2021, the Jersey City Police Department received a call that reported shots being fired on 116 Martin Luther King Drive. When officials reached the scene, they found Bell wounded by gunshots. Bell was immediately taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Bell was 17 when he was shot dead.

The sentencing is due on Friday, January 19, 2024. The Jersey community closely monitored the case. The family and the community sought justice for Bell’s demise.

Hudson County Prosecutor Andrew Baginski represented the state in this case.
