Mansfield, TX: Mansfield police say two individuals have been taken into custody following the apparent overdose of fentanyl in a 2-year-old kid.

A grand jury found 26-year-old Michael Reed guilty of first-degree felony charges related to serious bodily damage to a child and 30-year-old Jamie Popovic guilty of state jail felony charges related to abandoning or endangering a child.

On February 18, the child’s whereabouts prompted a police response to the apartment where Reed, Popovic, and another roommate were residing.

According to the affidavit, Reed’s sister Popovic returned from a Chili’s at about 8 or 9 p.m. and discovered the infant lying on the floor. Popovic noticed that the youngster was limp and was breathing laboriously, so she suspected something was wrong as per FOX News.

Since the 911 call didn’t come in until 10:17 p.m., an extra hour was not accounted for, as detailed in the affidavit. According to the report, Reed admitted to the police that he had been looking for a way to induce vomiting in children and had even tried sticking his finger down her throat in an attempt to do so.

The affidavit summarizes statements made by Popovic’s roommate, who said that the child’s unsupervised wandering about the flat was common and that Reed had advised him not to contact the authorities. In addition, Popovic mentioned finding blue and white pills scattered throughout the residence. Authorities claim they found fentanyl in a pill that was found near the toddler.

Police discovered a scale, white pills, cash, and baggies used to store marijuana when searching the flat, according to the affidavit. A kitchen cupboard was also found with a loaded gun, according to investigators.

According to the complaint, Reed waited two hours before contacting for assistance and didn’t dial 911 until his daughter stopped breathing, as shown in her YouTube search history.
