$2 Million Awarded to Family After Motel Guest Dies From Scalding Shower in Kentucky Motel
A Kentucky man, aged 76, tragically lost his life due to severe burns sustained in a scalding hot motel shower. The family has been granted a compensation of over $2 million for this devastating incident, where water temperatures exceeded 150 degrees Fahrenheit.
According to court documents, Alex Chronis reportedly checked into the Econo Lodge in Erlanger, Kentucky on November 18, 2021. When he started the shower, scalding hot water poured out and caused him to fall to the floor, burning him. Two individuals who were present at the motel with Chronis responded to his distress and promptly assisted him out of the tub.
According to Jeffrey Blankenship, the attorney for Chronis’ family, he had to undergo skin grafting due to severe burns caused by the scalding temperature of the hotel shower.
Chronis sadly passed away on June 19, 2022 after an extended stay in the hospital. Chronis, who never married and had no children, had his niece take legal action against the motel.

According to expert witnesses, it was determined that the water temperature reached a minimum of 150 degrees Fahrenheit. Chronis’ nephew captured disturbing images of Chronis’ legs, which displayed extensive damage and unusual discoloration.
The court’s final trial order, issued on July 11, awarded Chronis’ estate a total of $1,271,486.60 to cover medical expenses, $16,058.73 for funeral expenses, $250,000 for pain and suffering, and $500,000 for punitive damages. The defense has been granted a 30-day period to submit an appeal.
According to Blankenship, the defense argued that Chronis did not stay at the motel. The defense attorneys chose not to provide any comments, as they are waiting for the appeal to be resolved.
