2 Arrested after Toddler Ingested THC Gums, Aunt Called Cops after Kid Slept Nearly for 15 hours
Boone County. KY: Four-year-old girl was found asleep after eating a THC gummy while being watched by a man and a woman in Boone County. They were both arrested and charged with wanton endangerment.
When the Boone County Sheriff’s Office heard that a child was unconscious at a house on Monday morning, they sent agents there. In the morning, the child had stayed with her grandma, Darlene Schloss, who is 60 years old, and had not woken up.
Schloss took the child to her aunt’s house, where her aunt told the child’s parents right away about her situation before they called 911.
Officials said that deputies found the kid breathing, but not awake. The child’s skin was gray. She was taken to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and stayed there for two days. On Wednesday morning, she was freed.
A news statement says Schloss told deputies that her brother, 63-year-old Stephen R. Troxell, bought a gummy and left it out in the open in their shared home. Schloss and Troxell were both home when the child ate the candy, but neither of them told anyone.
Schloss told deputies that she didn’t tell anyone because Troxell told her that if the cops found out, they would “take (the child) away.”
They are each charged with one count of first-degree wanton endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child. The Boone County Detention Center held them on a $100,000 cash bond.
Also, deputies in Boone County are looking into whether the store that sold the gummies broke any rules about packaging and labeling.
