18-Wheeler Tractor-Trailer Crashed Into Seven Other Vehicles, Tipped Over And Caught Fire in Miami-Dade

Miami-Dade, FL: A serious accident occurred during the morning rush hour on Florida’s Turnpike extension in northwest Miami-Dade. An 18-wheeler tractor-trailer collided with seven vehicles, causing it to tip over and catch fire. Authorities reported that one person was airlifted to the hospital as a result of the incident.

A fiery crash occurred around 8:30 a.m., causing the closure of the Turnpike in both directions near Interstate 75.

A helicopter for rescue purposes touched down in the northbound lanes of the Turnpike. By 4 p.m., all lane closures on both sides of the stretch of the Turnpike were no longer listed on Florida 511.

According to Lt. Alex Camacho, a Florida Highway Patrol spokesman, the driver of the truck was heading southbound when they unfortunately “lost control” and crashed into seven other vehicles.

“Following a string of crashes, the tractor-trailer unfortunately collided with the median concrete barrier wall, resulting in it overturning and catching fire,” he explained.

According to Camacho, the injuries that were reported are not considered life-threatening.

One person was airlifted to the hospital by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, while four additional individuals were evaluated at the scene by Miramar Fire Rescue, according to the county’s fire rescue team.
