A tragic incident occurred in South Carolina where a woman allegedly stabbed a pregnant teenager who was just days away from giving birth.

A 17-year-old girl named Maylashia Hogg was tragically discovered deceased in Barnwell County, South Carolina on February 18th. She had been reported missing just days prior. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is currently investigating the case.

Hogg was expecting to welcome a baby girl named Londyn Charity on February 14th.

Officials in South Carolina announced on Monday, July 1, that they have successfully identified a suspect following an extensive investigation that spanned several months. A woman named Jacqueline Reid, aged 62, has been charged with two counts of murder, as stated in the arrest warrants reviewed by PEOPLE.

Authorities claim that Reid allegedly attacked Hogg, inflicting multiple stab wounds using a sharp-edged weapon. According to the warrants, authorities have stated that Hogg was last seen near Reid’s residence and that a search warrant of her home uncovered “forensic evidence of the crime.”

“Please keep Maylashia’s loved ones in your thoughts,” Barnwell police chief Michael Butts said in a statement. We must continue to care for each other, to honor Maylashia and Londyn’s memories, and come together to heal.”

Authorities did not disclose any information regarding the connection between Reid and Hogg. It remains uncertain whether Reid has entered a plea or secured legal representation.
