17-year-old Dead after Crash in Phoenix; 20-year-old Seriously Injured: Authorities
A teenage girl has lost her life, and a man has sustained serious injuries following an off-road vehicle accident in a desert region near the Loop 101 in north Phoenix early Monday morning.
Phoenix police report that at approximately 4 a.m., an ATV was involved in a crash in a desert region close to 47th Avenue and Beardsley Road, situated north of the Loop 101. Upon the arrival of authorities, they discovered a teenage girl who was unresponsive and a man who had sustained injuries.
Authorities report that the girl, identified as 17-year-old Edith Ochoa, was operating the ATV with a man in the passenger seat when she lost control while traveling westbound on Beardsley. This resulted in the vehicle veering onto the dirt shoulder, leading to both individuals being ejected from the ATV.
Ochoa passed away at the scene, while the individual, identified only as 20 years old, was transported to the hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.
Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision, including the possibility of impairment on Ochoa’s part at the time of the incident.
The inquiry is still in progress.
