15-year-old Raped by Man on Bail for Sex Crimes; Judge Slapped Him with 15 years of Prison Term in California
A Fresno man has been sentenced for committing a heinous crime against a minor while he was out on bail, as reported by the US Department of Justice.
A 36-year-old man named Christopher Contreras has been sentenced to 15 years and nine months in jail for the crimes of coercion and attempted coercion of minors, as announced by authorities in a recent news release.
The individual received a sentence from U.S. District Judge Jennifer L. Thurston and will be required to register as a sex offender upon release from prison, as stated by prosecutors. Additionally, he will need to be under surveillance for a period of 20 years.
As per authorities, he was taken into custody on July 31, 2020, for trying to arrange a meeting with a 13-year-old using apps like Skout and Snapchat. The young individual was operating covertly.
Contreras was apprehended after visiting a location in Fresno with the intention of meeting an individual he believed to be underage. According to prosecutors, he managed to flee from Fresno County Jail in less than 24 hours.
As reported by Fresnobee, the individual who was out on bail allegedly coerced a minor to meet with them on October 13, 2020, and committed a serious crime against the 15-year-old victim. Contreras was taken into custody at his residence, and law enforcement officials confiscated a number of his personal electronic devices.
