13-year-old Stabbed her Own Mother to Death and injured her Brother in Pennsylvania

Wilkes-Barre, PA: A Pennsylvania girl, who was 13 years old at the time of the purported confession, told police, “I’m the reason my mom is dead.” She also admitted to stabbing her brother, who was 11 years old, following an altercation with her mother.

Authorities were called to a residence on South Sherman Street in Wilkes-Barre at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Friday, and Lataya Powell reportedly confessed to the rampage.

The prosecution complaint states that she stated, “I killed my mom and she will never forgive me if she is alive.”

The mother, whose identity was eventually revealed as Tameeka Tucker, was reportedly wounded in the head and chest, according to the police.

At the same time, her younger brother, who is eleven years old, was discovered on a couch in the living room with cuts to his back, as reported by the news site. His wounds were not deemed critical.

Powell was apprehended on the spot and indicted as an adult on charges of murder, two counts of severe assault, and evidence tampering.

The police could not find any blades or other cutting implements upon arrival, but they did find padlocked kitchen drawers and cabinets.

The news source cited an arrest affidavit in reporting that one seemed to be broken and that a padlock was found on the floor.

Powell informed the police that she had thrown the gun on a neighbor’s doorstep when they confronted her.

The news site shared footage of the youngster expressing her feelings of “regret, guilt and self-disgust” to a reporter before to being placed in a patrol car.

The neighbor who discovered the blade on her doorstep testified that the victim was engaged in yard chores when the gruesome incident occurred.

The accused murderer will have her preliminary hearing on April 10 while she is incarcerated at the Luzerne County Jail.
