13-year-old Girl Fatally Stabbed by Man who Left Her to Die in Closet; Arrested and Charged in Florida; Family Devastated after Losing Daughter

Authorities in Florida have taken into custody a guy they say stabbed a child, 13, to death in an apartment building’s utility closet.

Orange County Sheriff John Mina informed reporters at a press conference on Friday that 28-year-old Jerry Dorisme is facing first-degree criminal murder charges. Rose Dieujuste’s family has been supported through a GoFundMe effort, which the authorities have shared.

“Our community and our agency were rocked” by Rose’s murder, Mina stated. We all feel the pain of a child’s murder. As a father, I am. Everyone in the community, especially our investigators who are also parents, is taking a major hit because of this. The suffering that Rose’s loved ones are enduring at this very moment is beyond our comprehension.

The 13-year-old was “senselessly and brutally murdered” on July 4th at the Palmetto at Lakeside apartment complex in Orlando, according to Mina, who spoke to media about the incident.

She was allegedly her route to see a buddy in another building within the complex, according to investigators. Dorisme allegedly assaulted her at that moment. A friend of Rose’s discovered her shoes, cell phone, and other belongings on an apartment building stairwell. She made contact with the teen’s loved ones. After pounding on doors in an attempt to locate Rose, a relative eventually found her in a utility closet, partially naked and wounded. The incident prompted the dispatch of deputies. Despite CPR and first aid attempts, the 13-year-old remained unresponsive, barely alive. At the hospital, Rose passed away from her wounds.

Looking for the murderer was the sheriff’s department. The 12-inch knife was discovered in the closet’s packing by the detectives, according to Mina. Police have concluded that this blade was used in the murder.

Witnesses allegedly saw a “heavy-set” man depart the building where Rose was discovered, as reported by the sheriff. Dorisme, as Mina said in her account of the security tape, was seen distantly following Rose just before the murder. The sheriff further stated that surveillance footage from a neighboring store showed him buying the blade.

In an effort to identify the as-yet-unnamed suspect, authorities released a portion of the surveillance footage from the apartment complex. Mina said that Dorisme’s father had even called in to positively identify him. Night of Thursday saw the suspect’s apprehension.

Mina stated that the defendant is originally from Haiti and has been living in the US illegally since 2008. In 2021, the defendant entered a not-guilty plea in a case involving child abuse and was given a prison sentence of one year and one day. We dropped all charges, including those involving indecent or lascivious molestation.

On June 18, he was last noticed by deputies in Orange County. According to Mina, who spoke to reporters, they got a complaint about a guy carrying a knife as he walked down the street. According to the sheriff, they were able to convince him to stop, but he nevertheless assaulted three deputies and was subjected to the state’s mental health law, the Baker Act.

There is an ongoing case involving three counts of battery on a law enforcement officer and one count of resisting an officer with violence, according to the records.

The Florida DPS is lending its support to the inquiry, which is still ongoing. In Thursday’s arrest, Dorisme did not put up any resistance, according to Mina. The defendant may have been familiar with the complex, according to the sheriff, as he had lived there and went to the same barbershop. Witnesses in the area claimed they saw him observing females.

The murder charge against Dorisme is a first-degree felony. On Friday, he made his initial court appearance, according to records reviewed by Law and Crime.
