Police in Everett say that a 13-year-old boy who was seriously hurt when he hit a braided wire while riding his electric bike has died from his injuries.

Around 4:30 p.m. on May 2, the accident took place in the 8800 block of 5th Avenue West.

Police say the teen was riding his electric bike south on 5th Avenue West and tried to get to a nearby cul-de-sac by cutting through an open lot.

The kid ran into a metal wire that was stretched between a fence post and a traffic cone as he crossed the parking lot.

The accident hurt someone very badly.

Officers from the Everett Police Department, including the Traffic Safety Unit, and the Everett Fire Department went to the scene.

The teen was taken to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Centre by medics. He died on May 5 from his wounds.

The wire has been taken down from the lot after the City of Everett’s Risk Management team was told about it.

The Everett Police Department says the probe is still going on.
