11-year-old Girl Arrested in Los Angeles Retail Theft Crackdown, 6 Teens and 2 Adults also Apprehended
Los Angeles, CA: The Los Angeles Police Department apprehended eight people, six of them are minors (15 and under), in relation to a citywide retail stealing ring.
The eight individuals apprehended were allegedly involved in multiple instances of shoplifting and larceny from local establishments, according to the authorities. Near McArthur Park, just outside of downtown Los Angeles, is the Alvarado Corridor, where the gang allegedly sold or traded stolen goods with vendors.
The receiving of stolen material led to the arrest of one suspect, Yoselin Quintanilla, 31, of the Los Angeles area. A warrant for a no-bail parole violation led to the arrest of another adult, whose identity is being concealed.
Three minors, ranging in age from eleven to fifteen, were apprehended for robbery in Estes when they were seen attempting to sell looted goods to sellers along the Alvarado Corridor.
An 11-year-old girl was released to her parents, while two other juveniles, aged 14 and 15, were sent to the Los Angeles County Juvenile Detention Program. Because of their age, the names of the juvenile offenders are being kept secret.
The alleged loot includes apparel, footwear, and home goods, among other things.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, their investigation led to the recovery and subsequent restitution of goods valued at around $4,600.
With 200 cases filed last year, organized retail theft has been a significant problem for businesses in L.A. County.
