11 Arrested in Welch for Using Drones to Transport Drugs Inside Federal Prison
Welch, WV: West Virginia authorities apprehended 11 individuals, one of whom was a minor, following an extensive investigation last year into drones trying to deliver drugs to a federal prison.
Authorities reported that the drug bust occurred following the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office received information about a rise in drones flying near the medium-security Federal Correctional Institution in the city of Welch last November.
In the subsequent month, additional information was reported to the law enforcement agency regarding potential drone deliveries, as stated by the sheriff’s office.
It remains uncertain whether any drugs were successfully delivered and, if they were, the specific type of narcotics that inmates obtained.
