100 MPH Collision in Houston Sends Four Children to Hospital; Suspect on Loose

Miami Standard (Houston, TX) – Five individuals, among them four children, were transported to a hospital following a significant accident in North Houston on Tuesday.

Authorities in Houston report that the incident occurred in the 5300 block of Yale Street, located just south of W. Tidwell Road.

Authorities report that two cars were part of the incident. A man and woman were in a Chevrolet Avalanche attempting to make a right turn from an inside lane when a Ford Expedition, travelling at an estimated 100 mph in a 35 mph zone on Yale Street, collided with the Avalanche.

The force made the Expedition lift off the ground, eventually coming down in a nearby drainage ditch. A man, a woman, and four children were inside the vehicle.

An 8-year-old girl was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Authorities report that the individual in the vehicle, identified as the children’s father, fled the scene and was subsequently picked up by another car that drove off. Authorities are pursuing leads to locate the individual.

“I’m not sure what he was thinking at that moment, and I can’t say if there was another reason for his decision to run,” stated Cpt. Ryan Watson with HPD.

Officers saved the man’s wife and three children from the ditch. All individuals were transported to a hospital, with two of them in serious yet stable condition. Three others are in critical condition, yet stable.

Watson reported that the injuries are serious, but it looks like everyone is expected to survive the crash.

Authorities report that the individuals involved in the Avalanche remained at the location, displayed no signs of impairment, and have been cooperative with law enforcement.
